Tasting notes

Pale coral pink, bright in the glass. The nose is clean and lifted: wild strawberry, pink grapefruit and rose petal over a faint smoky, volcanic note. The palate is dry and taut, the fruit held by firm acidity, closing saline and persistent with a touch of white pepper.

About this wine

Le Sabbie dell'Etna Rosato is Firriato's volcanic rosé, made at the Cavanera estate on the north-eastern flank of Etna. The vineyards lie at around 700 metres in loose sandy volcanic soils of ash and lapilli that drain almost instantly.

Nerello Mascalese, the red grape of the mountain, is pressed gently and briefly so that only a little colour is drawn, then fermented cool in stainless steel. Altitude and the wide day-night temperature swing give the wine its acidity and its tight, mineral edge.
