Tasting notes

Deep ruby with garnet reflections. The nose shows redcurrant, sweet spices and forest floor. The palate is warm, rich and full-bodied, with expressive tannins and a delicate hint of vanilla from the French oak, leading to a long, savoury finish.

About this wine

San Felice is a historic estate in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the heart of Chianti Classico near Siena. Vigorello was first made in 1968 and counts among the very first wines of the style later known as Super Tuscan.

What sets the blend apart is Pugnitello, an ancient Tuscan grape the estate brought back to life, joined here by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is aged in 225-litre French barriques and then rests in bottle before release.

With more than a decade in bottle, the 2013 vintage offers a rare chance to taste a pioneering Tuscan red with real maturity and depth.
