Tasting notes

Impenetrable garnet-black. Dried black cherry, prune, candied orange peel and fig lead into cocoa, tobacco, sweet spice and balsamic resin. The palate is vast and glossy, with enormous extract, ripe tannin and a current of acidity that keeps it moving. The finish lasts minutes, leaving kirsch, bitter chocolate and dried rosemary.

About this wine

Vigneto Alto is Tommaso Bussola's selection from his highest parcels above Negrar, picked later and dried longer than his standard Amarone. The initials TB on the label mark the estate's top tier, made only in vintages the grower judges worthy.

Bunches rest in the drying lofts well into the new year, losing much of their water before a slow fermentation and several years in oak. The extra ripeness and extended appassimento build a wine of remarkable density, yet Bussola's hand keeps it fresh rather than merely sweet and heavy.

A collector's Amarone that needs decanting and rewards long cellaring.
