Tasting notes

Deep ruby with violet reflections. The nose is fresh and vibrant, with wild blueberry, blackberry, violet and a touch of alpine herbs and graphite. On the palate the amphora ageing gives remarkable purity: juicy dark fruit, lively acidity, fine-grained tannins and a long, mineral finish with a savoury edge.

About this wine

Sgarzon is one of the two single-vineyard Teroldego wines made by Elisabetta Foradori in Mezzolombardo, on the Campo Rotaliano plain in Trentino. In local dialect the name means "shoot": the vines on this cooler, gravelly parcel are particularly vigorous and ripen slowly, giving a wine of unusual freshness for the variety.

The grapes are farmed biodynamically and the wine ferments and ages on its skins in Spanish clay amphorae (tinajas) from Villarrobledo for eight months, with no oak involved. The clay preserves and highlights the individual character of the site rather than adding flavour of its own.

The result is a pure, transparent Teroldego with bright fruit, floral lift and fine-grained tannins, from one of the most respected natural-wine producers in Italy.
