Tasting notes

Light ruby with garnet edges. A fine, fruit-led nose of wild cherry, raspberry and dried violet, with a wisp of forest floor behind it. The palate is full and velvety for the variety, its body generous but elegant, the tannins soft and well integrated. The finish is savoury and gently spiced.

About this wine

Wilhelm Walch founded his cellar in Tramin, in the heart of Alto Adige, in 1869. Five generations later the house is still family-run, working with growers across the valley floor and the Dolomite foothills above it.

"Prendo" is Walch's Pinot Nero, bottled under the wider Vigneti delle Dolomiti designation. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at around 26 °C to capture the variety's perfume, after which the wine matures in large Slavonian oak casks — a vessel chosen to round the tannins without stamping the fruit with new-wood flavour.

It is approachable on release and holds its shape for two to four years.
