Tasting notes

Pale straw with a faint coppery glint, the signature of ripe Pinot Grigio skins. The nose is floral and varietal, leading with sweet citrus, pear and a touch of white blossom. On the palate it is fresh and soft at once, with a distinct saline streak and an elegant, dry, lingering close.

About this wine

The Collavini family has been making wine since 1896 and today works from a sixteenth-century villa at Corno di Rosazzo, in the Friulian hills.

"Villa Canlungo" belongs to the estate's I Poderi range and is its Collio Pinot Grigio. The grapes are picked at full ripeness and pressed at once, then fermented in stainless steel at 14–16 °C over roughly two weeks. The wine then rests on its fine lees until spring, which gives it texture without blurring its outline.

Collio's marl-and-sandstone soils are what set this style apart: a Pinot Grigio with salinity and grip rather than simple softness.
