Tasting notes

Opaque purple. Dark woodland berries, ripe plum, elderflower and liquorice. Muscular, velvety and concentrated, with assertive but ripe tannins; decant it when young.

About this wine

Rubatsch is Manincor's Lagrein: two thirds from the Rubatsch vineyard in Terlano, facing south-west at 250 metres on sand mixed with weathered porphyry, and one third from the Seehof site at Caldaro. The estate is farmed biodynamically.

It ferments on the skins in open oak vats with wild yeasts, with the cap pushed down daily for two weeks, and ages 16 months in barriques, one in five new. Opaque purple, it shows dark berries, ripe plum and liquorice, and is muscular, velvety and concentrated, with ripe tannins. This listing is the 2018 vintage.
