Tasting notes

Pale straw yellow with greenish highlights. The nose is delicate and clean, with apple blossom, green apple, pear and citrus, and a faint hint of white flowers. The palate is dry and light-footed, with lively acidity, a marked mineral streak from the porphyry soils and a fresh, crisp finish of apple and lemon.

About this wine

Pinot Bianco belongs to the classic line of Cantina Girlan, the cooperative winery of Cornaiano (Girlan) in South Tyrol. The grapes grow on well-ventilated parcels on the hills of the Oltradige, at 450 to 500 metres above sea level, on poor, mineral soils of volcanic porphyry that give the wine its crisp, stony character.

After hand harvesting and gentle pressing, the must ferments in stainless steel at controlled temperature and the wine rests on its fine lees in steel until bottling, with no oak, to preserve its delicate aromas.

This is a textbook alpine Pinot Bianco: fragrant, dry and mineral, the kind of white South Tyrol does better than almost anywhere else.
