Tasting notes

Ruby red turning garnet with age. Intense yet delicate nose of violet, ripe fruit and blackcurrant jelly. Dry and full on the palate with a velvety texture, firm tannins touched by vanilla and a long, lingering finish. It will continue to evolve gracefully in the cellar for several more years.

About this wine

Giacosa Fratelli is a family winery in Neive, in the heart of the Langhe. This Barbaresco comes from the Gianmaté vineyard on the Basarin hill, a plot that runs along the very crest of the slope with a south-south-east exposure.

The calcareous clay marl soil gives the wine an aromatic profile that sets it apart from the rest of the hill. Made from Nebbiolo, it matures in small oak barrels and then rests for a long time in bottle before release.

The 2017 vintage shows the depth and finesse of a single-vineyard Barbaresco from Neive.
