Tasting notes

Garnet red with brick reflections. A gentle, open nose of red cherry, dried rose, sweet spice and a touch of tobacco. The palate is broad and pleasant, with soft, rounded tannins, balanced acidity and a warm, persistent finish of ripe red fruit and liquorice. The most approachable of the cooperative's Riservas.

About this wine

Produttori del Barbaresco, the historic growers' cooperative of the village of Barbaresco, produces this Riserva from the Pora cru (MGA). The vineyard lies close to the Tanaro river, whose proximity creates a particular microclimate, on clay-limestone soils with veins of sand.

The Nebbiolo ferments in stainless steel at 30 °C with a 28-day maceration on the skins and malolactic fermentation, then ages for a minimum of 30 months in large oak casks of 25–50 hectolitres before bottling in June.

Pora is traditionally the gentlest and most open of the cooperative's crus: a Barbaresco with soft tannins and a broad, generous palate that is approachable earlier than its siblings while still ageing gracefully.
