Tasting notes

Garnet-tinged ruby. The nose opens on dried herbs, tobacco, mint and cedar, with red fruit growing clearer as the wine breathes. The palate is elegant yet firm, with pronounced tannins, lively freshness and a long, savoury finish. Decanting for an hour helps the tannins soften and the aromatic layers unfold.

About this wine

Dave Fletcher is an Australian winemaker who, after years working in Piedmont, founded his own small estate in Barbaresco. His cellar and home are set in the village's former railway station, a fitting base for a producer who arrived from the other side of the world.

Stardèri is the most powerful and tannic wine of his range, made entirely from Nebbiolo. Fermentation starts spontaneously and the wine spends about two years in old small oak barrels, then is bottled without fining or filtration so that the vineyard speaks clearly.
