How to serve it
Tasting notes
Deep ruby red. The nose is intense, with ripe cherries, violets and wild herbs, followed by dark spice from the oak ageing. On the palate the wine is juicy and vibrant, with velvety tannins and the fresh acidity typical of Barbera, leading to a long, spicy finish.
About this wine
The Brezza family has been growing vines in Barolo since 1885 and today farms its vineyards organically. This Barbera d'Alba Superiore comes from plots within the commune of Barolo itself, some of them planted as far back as 1942, which give naturally low yields and concentrated fruit.
After fermentation the wine spends about twelve months in young Slavonian oak casks, followed by a further year in bottle before release. The oak is used to round out Barbera's lively acidity rather than to mask it.
The result is a Barbera with real depth and juicy drinkability, showing how serious this grape can be when it grows on Barolo's prized hillsides.
