Tasting notes

Ruby red, moving towards garnet with age. Cherry, redcurrant, blackberry and raspberry on the nose, then spice and herbs, with toast, cinnamon, nutmeg and tobacco as it evolves. Balanced and harmonious on the palate, with freshness, fine tannins and a long, persistent finish.

About this wine

Sassicaia is the wine that made Bolgheri famous: Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta planted Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc at Tenuta San Guido in 1944, and the first vintage went on sale in 1968. It is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon (about 85%) with Cabernet Franc, and since 2013 it has had its own denomination, Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC.

After a cool, rainy spring and a sunny summer, the 2019 grapes were picked by hand from the second week of September to early October, fermented spontaneously without added yeasts and aged 20 to 25 months in French oak barriques, with a small part in American oak. This listing is the 2019 vintage.
