Tasting notes

Deep ruby red. The nose offers blackcurrant, black cherry and plum with notes of cedar, tobacco, Mediterranean herbs and sweet spice. The palate is full yet elegant, with dense, fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity and a long, refined finish.

About this wine

Guado al Tasso is the Antinori family's estate at Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast: a broad amphitheatre of vineyards between the Mediterranean and the hills. The name, meaning "badger's ford", recalls the wildlife of this land of woods, fields and vines.

The estate's flagship wine is a Bolgheri Superiore based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, completed by Cabernet Franc and, in some years, a little Petit Verdot. Each variety is vinified separately, and the blend then ages in French oak barriques before a further period in bottle.

The 2014 reflects a cooler vintage, favouring freshness and finesse over sheer power.
