Tasting notes

Pale rose pink with a bright rim. The nose gives strawberry, raspberry and a touch of rose petal. The palate is dry and light, with fresh acidity carrying the red fruit and a clean, slightly savoury edge beneath. The finish is crisp and moderately long, with a trace of citrus.

About this wine

Cantina Zaccagnini, at Bolognano in Abruzzo, has tied a small vine shoot to the neck of every bottle since 1978. That shoot, the tralcetto, names the estate's approachable everyday line.

This rosé is drawn from Montepulciano, the dark Abruzzese red grape, with a short maceration on the skins that lends colour and red-fruit aroma while leaving the tannin behind. Fermentation takes place cool in stainless steel, and the wine goes into bottle within months of the harvest.

Vineyards set between the Adriatic and the Majella keep the nights cool, which is what holds the acidity in a wine of this style.
