Tasting notes

Clear, bright ruby. The nose opens on small red fruits with nutmeg, black pepper and rose petal, over a distinct ferrous, mineral undertone. The palate is lively and juicy, the acidity well balanced and the tannins fine-grained, leading to a dry finish of real length.

About this wine

Cavanera Rovo delle Coturnie is Firriato's single-vineyard red from Contrada Marchesa, on the north-eastern flank of Etna at around 700 metres. Volcanic sandy soils and a mountain climate shape a Nerello Mascalese built on elegance and mineral tension rather than weight.

Fermentation takes place in truncated-cone wooden vats, after which the wine ages twelve months in Slavonian oak casks, large enough to let the variety's fine-boned aromatics come through unmarked by the wood.
