Tasting notes

Deep garnet red. The nose is refined and layered, with blackcurrant, black cherry and plum, cedar, graphite, tobacco and a touch of sweet spice from the new oak. The palate combines softness and intensity: a delicate, polished texture, fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity and a finish of remarkable depth and length.

About this wine

Château Calon-Ségur is a Third Growth of the 1855 classification, located in Saint-Estèphe in the northern Médoc. It is one of the oldest estates of the appellation, and its heart-shaped label recalls the words of the Marquis de Ségur, who owned Lafite and Latour but declared that his heart was at Calon.

The vineyards grow on a deep layer of river gravel over a clay base, and Cabernet Sauvignon sets the style of the wine, completed by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The grand vin ages for 18 to 20 months entirely in new oak barrels.

Calon-Ségur is renowned for the exceptional ageing potential of its wines, which combine softness and intensity, finesse, purity, a delicate texture and remarkable depth and length.
