Tasting notes

Bright, youthful ruby. The nose is openly fruity, on raspberry, redcurrant and crushed strawberry, with the variety's leafy, peppery edge. Light to medium bodied and rounded, with supple tannin and juicy acidity, finishing clean and short rather than long — a wine for drinking, not keeping.

About this wine

Bernard Baudry founded his estate at Cravant-les-Côteaux in 1975; his son Matthieu has worked alongside him since 2000. The Chinon vineyards have been farmed organically since 2006.

Les Granges is the fruitiest of the estate's reds, from vines planted between 1985 and 1988 on gravel and sand alluvial terraces close to the Vienne. It is raised for seven to ten months in concrete tanks, with no oak at all.

The wine is made to be drunk young, and it is the clearest illustration of what Cabernet Franc does on light soils: bright red fruit, little tannin and plenty of lift.
