Tasting notes

Deepening gold with age. The nose has evolved towards dried lemon, quince, hazelnut and a smoky, flinty undertow, with honeyed hints at the edges. The palate keeps a firm mineral spine, the acidity still bright but now wrapped in a rounder, waxy texture. A long finish of citrus peel, almond and wet stone.

About this wine

Vau de Vey lies in a cool, narrow valley on the left bank of the Serein, west of the village of Chablis. Later-ripening than most Premier Crus, it is prized for the sharp, almost electric character it gives to Chardonnay.

Domaine des Malandes, based in the town of Chablis and now farming organically, vinifies the parcel in stainless steel and ages it on the fine lees to build texture without masking the site. With a decade behind it, this bottling has traded some of its youthful bite for a deeper, more savoury complexity.
