Tasting notes

Pale straw with green reflections. A taut, precise nose of lemon zest, green apple, white flowers, wet stone and a hint of sea breeze. The palate is sharp, tight and austere, with piercing acidity, pronounced volcanic minerality and a long, saline finish. A white of aristocratic bearing that gains complexity with age.

About this wine

Tenuta delle Terre Nere is the estate of Marco de Grazia in Contrada Calderara, Randazzo, on the northern slope of Mount Etna. This Bianco Superiore comes from Contrada Salice in Milo, the easternmost commune of Etna and the only one entitled to the Superiore designation, with a cool, humid and windy climate especially suited to white wines.

The vines are 30 to 60 years old, trained in traditional alberello at 600–750 metres on deep volcanic ash. The wine is 100% Carricante, aged for nine months in stainless steel to preserve its tension.

Sharp, taut and austere at 12.5% alcohol, it is a white of aristocratic character that rewards patience and a few years in the cellar.
