Tasting notes

Bright ruby red. The nose is fresh and layered, with red cherry, wild berries, dried herbs and a smoky volcanic edge. The palate is elegant and refined, with exceptional freshness, fine-grained tannins and a long, mineral finish.

About this wine

Pietradolce is the Faro family estate in Solicchiata, near Castiglione di Sicilia, on the northern slope of Mount Etna. Archineri comes from a single vineyard in Contrada Rampante, at around 850 metres, planted with pre-phylloxera Nerello Mascalese bush vines about 90 years old.

The grapes are hand-harvested in October and macerate for around 18 days in tulip-shaped concrete vats; the wine then ages for 14 months in fine, lightly toasted oak before resting in bottle.

It is a wine of remarkable freshness and finesse, one of the benchmark expressions of old-vine Etna.
