Tasting notes

Bright ruby red. A broad bouquet alternates spicy notes with small red berries, wild herbs and a hint of volcanic smoke. The palate is lively, elegant and full of character, with taut acidity, fine tannins and a long, mineral finish.

About this wine

Pietradolce is the Faro family estate in Solicchiata, near Castiglione di Sicilia, on the northern slope of Mount Etna. Contrada Santo Spirito comes from a single pre-phylloxera vineyard in the highest part of the contrada near Passopisciaro, at around 900 metres.

The site is a windy hill with wide swings between day and night temperatures, and the Nerello Mascalese bush vines are about 90 years old. The wine ages for 14 months in fine, lightly toasted oak, then rests in bottle.

The altitude gives a lively, elegant and characterful red, one of the most aromatic of the estate's crus.
