Tasting notes

Deep ruby red. The nose is intense and pure: red and black cherry, violet, graphite, smoke and a severe stony minerality. The palate is powerful and tightly wound, with firm tannins that need time to soften, bright acidity and a very long, mineral finish. Closed when young; decant well or cellar for several years.

About this wine

Tenuta delle Terre Nere is the estate of Marco de Grazia in Contrada Calderara, Randazzo, on the northern slope of Mount Etna. Guardiola was the first wine from the estate's own vineyards, in 2002, and the first Etna Rosso ever to carry the name of its contrada on the label.

The vineyard covers just 1.2 hectares of ungrafted vines more than a century old, planted at high altitude on lean soils of volcanic sand and basalt gravel. The 100% Nerello Mascalese ages in French oak barriques and tonneaux, 20% new.

Intense and pure, with a severe minerality, Guardiola is closed in youth and needs time: as the tannins soften, the power and structure remain. 14.5% alcohol.
