Tasting notes

Deep ruby red. The nose reveals tobacco, damp earth, blackcurrant, blackberry and liquorice. The palate is structured and full, with fairly soft tannins and a long, persistent finish that promises excellent development in bottle.

About this wine

"Fontalloro" is Fèlsina's iconic Sangiovese from Castelnuovo Berardenga, first produced in 1983. The grapes come from three vineyards, Poggio al Sole, Arcidosso and Casalino, on the border between Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi, where limestone soils meet marine sediments.

Harvest is by hand in two selective passes. The wine is aged for 18 to 22 months in first- and second-use French barriques, followed by at least 8 to 12 months in bottle.

The 2018 is a structured, long-lived 100% Sangiovese with excellent ageing potential, one of the great Super Tuscans built on a single native grape.
