Tasting notes

Deep garnet. Deep mineral tones intertwined with tart black cherry, truffle, liquorice and dry earth. The palate is full-bodied and structured, with firm, fine-grained tannins and a long, savoury finish.

About this wine

Gaja is an iconic Piedmontese family winery, founded in 1859 and a pioneer of single-vineyard bottlings in Piedmont. In 1988 the family bought vineyards in Serralunga d'Alba, and the name "Sperss", a Piedmontese dialect word for nostalgia, recalls the family's long attachment to these hills.

The wine is pure Nebbiolo from a 7-hectare vineyard on dense clay and limestone soils, aged 30 months in oak.

The 2018 is a deep, mineral Barolo from the most powerful corner of the appellation, built for long cellaring.
