Tasting notes

Garnet red with orange glints. A complex, elegant and intense nose of red cherry, rose, liquorice and sweet spice, with fruity, spicy and floral nuances. The palate is full, powerful and structured, with a long finish and an ageing potential of 15 to 25 years.

About this wine

Monprivato is the historic vineyard of the Mascarello family in Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of the Barolo zone. Recorded in land registers as early as 1666, it has belonged to the family since 1904, and Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio has bottled its own wines since 1881.

About six hectares facing south-west at 280 metres, on Miocene calcareous marl, give one of the most classic of all Barolos. The wine ferments with a floating cap for 20–25 days and ages for about 30 months in medium-sized Slavonian oak casks; it is released six years after the harvest.

Complex, elegant and powerful, it can age for 15 to 25 years.
