Garnet red with orange glints. A complex, very fruity, elegant and intense nose of red cherry, rose and spice. The palate is powerful, full and balanced, with firm tannins and a long, savoury finish. Ageing potential of 10 to 25 years.

About this wine

The Santo Stefano vineyard lies in the hamlet of Perno, in the commune of Monforte d'Alba, and has belonged to the Mascarello family since 1989. About 1.7 hectares face west-south-west at 300 metres, on clay-sandy calcareous soils of brown clay and grey sand of marine origin.

Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio, which has bottled its own wines since 1881, works traditionally with native yeasts: the wine ferments with a floating cap for 15–20 days, ages for about 30 months in medium-sized Slavonian oak casks and is released four years after the harvest.

Fruity, elegant and powerful, it can age for 10 to 25 years.
