Tasting notes

Deep ruby. The nose shows black cherry, raspberry, peony and a hint of granite and spice. The palate is juicy and supple, with more structure than most Beaujolais, ripe tannins and a fresh, lingering finish. Serve slightly below room temperature in a large glass, letting it breathe briefly to reveal its full aromatic range.

About this wine

Jean and Agnès Foillard took over the family estate in Villié-Morgon in 1980 and are now among the most respected names in Beaujolais. Together with Marcel Lapierre, Jean-Paul Thévenet and Guy Breton they formed the so-called "Gang of Four", inspired by Jules Chauvet's ideas on natural wine.

The vineyards are farmed organically, fermentation uses whole bunches through carbonic maceration, and sulphur is added sparingly, only before bottling. The estate's classic Morgon ages for 6-9 months in used oak barrels and is bottled unfiltered, a benchmark for the cru.
