Tasting notes

Deep garnet red with ruby highlights. Earthy aromas of wild herbs and berries, with spice and toast from the barrique. The palate is warm, velvety and tannic, with substantial body and a long finish.

About this wine

Refosco is one of Friuli's oldest native red grapes, and La Roncaia grows it in the Friuli Colli Orientali, in the hills of Ramandolo, Nimis, Attimis and Tarcento in north-eastern Italy.

Part of the grapes is dried for about eight weeks after picking to concentrate fruit and structure. The wine is vinified in stainless steel tanks and then aged for at least 24 months in new and once-used barriques.

The 2019 is a deep, velvety red with earthy, herbal and spicy character and firm tannins, a wine for hearty meat dishes that will also reward a few more years in the cellar.
