Tasting notes

Deep garnet red. Complex nose of dried red cherry, tobacco leaf, leather and warm spice. Full-bodied on the palate with firm, well-built tannins, concentrated dark fruit and a long, savoury finish. A structured reserve wine that opens up with time in the glass.

About this wine

Melnik 55 is a Bulgarian grape variety created by crossing Shiroka Melnishka Loza with Valdiguie. It keeps the character of the local variety but ripens earlier and more reliably. Villa Melnik grows it in the Struma Valley near Harsovo, in the warm south-west of the country.

AplauZ Premium Reserve is the winery's top line. The wine shows dried red cherry, tobacco, leather and spice, with a full body and firm, well-built tannins. It is a serious, structured red that rewards a little time in the glass.

Serve at 16–18 °C with lamb, game or mature hard cheeses.
