Tasting notes

Deep straw yellow. The nose is fresh and enveloping, with banana and passion fruit over a quiet floral background. The palate is saline, lively and complex, broader than most Pinot Grigio, with the aromas returning on a long finish that stays clean and savoury rather than fruity.

About this wine

Founded in 1965 by Mario Schiopetto, who turned neglected land in Capriva del Friuli into model vineyards on the local marl known as ponca, this estate has been run by the Rotolo family since 2014. Pinot Grigio has been part of the range since 1968 and comes from hillside plots on medium-marl soils.

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, after which the wine spends eight months on its lees to gain weight and texture without losing definition. The bottling has been awarded 92 points by both Doctor Wine and James Suckling, and shows the taut, savoury style that made Collio white wine famous.
