Tasting notes

Ruby red with delicate garnet reflections. A mineral-edged nose of cherry, sour cherry and blue plum, followed by floral and peppery notes. The palate is full and dense, with pleasant tannins and a long, faintly spiced finish.

About this wine

Founded in 1932 at Manduria, the Produttori di Manduria cooperative is among the names most firmly attached to Primitivo in Puglia — the town is, after all, the one the appellation is named for.

This bottling sits a step below the DOC, under the broader Salento designation: hand-picked fruit from members' own vineyards, about a week of maceration, then fermentation and ageing in stainless steel rather than wood. Keeping it out of oak is deliberate, leaving a generous, full-bodied red whose appeal is ripe fruit rather than structure.

It is the everyday expression of a grape the house also makes in far more serious versions.
