Tasting notes

Intense ruby red. An ample, complex nose of ripe blackcurrant and blackberry, with vanilla and spice from the oak. Soft and harmonious, with elegant, ripe tannins, fresh natural acidity and a long, spicy finish.

About this wine

Nearco is Col d'Orcia's Bordeaux-style red, from estate vineyards on the Sant'Angelo hill in Montalcino. The 2017, a Sant'Antimo DOC, blends Merlot, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc.

2017 was a year of drought and long heatwaves, saved by a storm on 13 August and cooler nights. Each variety was vinified separately in steel and aged 12 months in French oak barriques (the Merlot in 500-litre tonneaux); the wine was blended in May 2019 and spent another year in bottle. This listing is the 2017 vintage.
