Tasting notes

Bright ruby red. The nose is pure and classic, with sour cherry, red plum, violet and a hint of dried herbs and earth. On the palate it is medium-bodied and precise, with fresh acidity, finely grained tannins and a long, savoury finish that speaks clearly of Sangiovese from Radda.

About this wine

Montevertine is the iconic estate of Radda in Chianti, and the wine that carries its name has been made since 1971. It was first released as Chianti Classico; since 1982, after the estate left the consortium, it has been bottled simply as Montevertine under the Toscana IGT.

The blend is 90% Sangiovese with 5% Canaiolo and 5% Colorino, from vineyards yielding just 45 hectolitres per hectare. Fermentation lasts about 21 days in cement vats, followed by 24 months in Slavonian oak casks and a few months in bottle.

It is a classic, honest expression of Sangiovese from the heart of Chianti, made without concessions to fashion.
