Tasting notes

Intense ruby red. The nose offers blueberry and blackcurrant, dried flowers and lavender, white pepper, mint and eucalyptus, with a touch of cocoa in the background. The palate is full and creamy, with silky tannins, bright freshness and a long finish that closes on liquorice and dark fruit.

About this wine

Solaia is the flagship of Marchesi Antinori, a wine from the vineyard of the same name on the Tignanello estate in Chianti Classico, first produced in 1978 and only in exceptional vintages. The south-west facing vineyard lies at 350 to 400 metres on rocky albarese and galestro soils.

The 2018 season brought a wet spring, a hot but balanced summer and dry, windy weather in September and October; the harvest closed on 10 October with the Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, completed by Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese, each vinified separately.

The wine aged for around 18 months in new French oak barriques before a long rest in bottle, resulting in a Solaia of creamy texture, aromatic complexity and great length.
