Tasting notes

Deep red with intense violet highlights. The nose shows fruit jam, blackcurrant, blackberry and cherry, with notes of chocolate and liquorice. The palate is soft and rounded, generous and warm, with a long, velvety finish.

About this wine

Varvaglione is a family winery in Puglia, and "Papale" is one of its best-known wines: a Primitivo di Manduria from the Contrada Papale, land once owned by a pope born in Puglia. Manduria is considered the heartland of the Primitivo grape.

The wine undergoes temperature-controlled maceration and malolactic fermentation, then matures in barriques, tonneaux and large casks before a final period of rest in bottle.

With 14% alcohol, it is a generous, rounded southern red that shows the warmth and ripe fruit of the Salento sun.
