Tasting notes

Ruby red with purple highlights. A delicate, grapey nose with clear notes of raspberry and red plum, and no oak to cover them. The palate is harmonious and fairly full, with medium structure, soft tannins and ripe red fruit carrying through to a clean, moderately long finish.

About this wine

This Merlot comes from Tenuta di Angoris, an estate near Cormons with roots going back to 1648 and some seventy-five hectares of vineyard across Friuli. The Villa Locatelli range is devoted to fresh, varietally direct wines from the flat Isonzo zone.

Fermentation takes place on the skins at controlled temperature, followed by a full malolactic conversion and twelve months in stainless steel. Keeping the wine entirely away from wood is a deliberate choice: it preserves the clean red-fruit character and the supple texture Merlot finds on these gravelly plains, giving a red that is ready to drink rather than built for long ageing.
