Tasting notes

Bright pale gold. Lemon curd, white peach and hazelnut on the nose, with a light smoky, buttery note from lees ageing. The palate is creamy yet dry, its stone fruit and citrus held in a chalky frame with no oak to be found. The finish is clean, saline and persistent, leaving almond and grapefruit pith.

About this wine

Zind is the estate's declassified white, a blend of Auxerrois and Chardonnay from vines on the limestone slopes around Turckheim. Because Chardonnay is not permitted in the Alsace appellation, the wine is bottled simply as Vin de France, which says nothing about its quality or its origin.

The two varieties are pressed and fermented together with indigenous yeasts in large old casks, then left on their lees without filtration. Auxerrois brings weight and a gentle creaminess, Chardonnay the acidity and length, and the limestone gives the whole a dry, chalky finish.

An unusually complete everyday white from a biodynamic estate.
