Tasting notes

Deep ruby red with purple edges. The nose is warm and Mediterranean, with black cherry, plum and dried fig over sweet spice, tobacco leaf and a note of dry herb scrub. The palate is full and velvety, the tannins ripe and finely grained, closing long on dark fruit and liquorice.

About this wine

Feudo Maccari was founded by Antonio Moretti Cuseri in the countryside around Noto, in the south-eastern corner of Sicily, where dry-stone walls divide small parcels of sandy, calcareous soil within reach of the sea.

Saia is the estate's Nero d'Avola, grown largely on old bush-trained alberello vines that keep yields low and ripening even. The name comes from the Arabic word for the irrigation channels the Arabs cut across this part of the island. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by ageing in French oak barriques, which frames the fruit without covering it.
