Tasting notes

Bright ruby. Raspberry, redcurrant, cherry, plum and pomegranate on the nose, with violet, wisteria and Mediterranean herbs. Taut, lively and refreshing on the palate, with fine tannin and a long saline finish.

About this wine

The Biondi-Santi Rosso di Montalcino comes from the youngest vines at Tenuta Greppo and from parcels chosen for their fruit character. It was originally known as the estate's white-label Brunello; since 1983, with the creation of the Rosso di Montalcino denomination, it has carried its present name.

Fermentation takes place in concrete vats, followed by twelve months in Slavonian oak casks — the same approach as the Brunello, on a shorter timescale.

2016 brought a warm, settled summer with a wide gap between day and night temperatures, which is what gives this vintage its combination of ripeness and tension.
