Tasting notes

Dark ruby with a youthful rim. Concentrated on the nose, with black cherry, blackcurrant, graphite and a savoury note of dried herbs and gravel dust. The palate is dense yet silky, the tannin fine-grained, the acidity fresh, and the finish long and mineral. Ten years of ageing is well within reach.

About this wine

Bernard Baudry founded his estate at Cravant-les-Côteaux in 1975; his son Matthieu has worked alongside him since 2000. The Chinon vineyards have been farmed organically since 2006.

Les Grézeaux comes from the oldest parcel on the estate, vines of around fifty years growing on stony gravel over a clay-silica base. The age of the plants and the poor soil give a wine that is dense and at the same time silky, and it is bottled without filtration.

It is the cuvée that shows how long Chinon can live: around a decade in most years, and considerably more in the strong ones.
