Tasting notes

Deep garnet red. Morello cherry and dried plum open the nose, followed by sweet spice, leather and a balsamic note from the long barrique ageing. The palate is full and firmly structured, with Sangiovese's bright acidity and close-grained tannins running to a long, savoury finish. Bottled unfiltered, it benefits from decanting.

About this wine

Siro Pacenti is a family estate in Montalcino. In 1970 Siro bought the Pelagrilli property north of the town, with clay soils and a view towards Siena, and from 1988 his son Giancarlo bottled the estate's first Rosso and Brunello.

Pelagrilli is pure Sangiovese from vineyards in the district of the same name, with vines over twenty-five years old. The grapes are picked by hand and sorted on a table both before and after destemming, fermentation runs in stainless steel, and the wine then spends twenty-four months in 225-litre French oak barriques before further time in bottle.
