Tasting notes

Deep ruby red with violet highlights. The nose offers ripe black cherry, plum and a touch of sweet spice. The palate is medium-bodied and smooth, with soft tannins, juicy dark fruit and a gentle note of vanilla from the oak. The finish is warm and clean, closing on a lingering trace of almond.

About this wine

Cantina Zaccagnini was founded in 1978 at Bolognano, in the hills of Abruzzo beneath the Majella massif. The estate is recognised across Italy for the small hand-tied vine shoot, the tralcetto, fastened to every bottle neck.

This wine is made from Montepulciano, the red grape that built Abruzzo's reputation. The fruit is picked in the cool morning hours, fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel and matured in part in oak, a method that keeps the fruit to the fore while building structure.

Bolognano lies between the Adriatic and the Apennines, and that daily exchange of sea breeze and mountain air lends the wines their balance of ripeness and freshness.
