Tasting notes

Ruby red in the glass. The nose is intense, with clear notes of Mediterranean scrub, myrtle and red berries such as cherry and raspberry. The palate is fresh and juicy, with a pleasant touch of salinity, fine and balanced tannins and a medium-long, savoury finish that calls for food.

About this wine

Cardanera is the Carignano of the Argiolas family, one of the leading names in Sardinian wine. The grapes grow in the Sulcis area in the south-west of the island, on sandy soils with limestone and clay, close to the sea and swept by the Mediterranean winds that shape the character of this variety.

Fermentation and maceration last 12 to 15 days, followed by malolactic fermentation in concrete vats; the wine then rests in bottle before release. The result is a Carignano del Sulcis that stays fresh and faithful to its origin.

Expect a savoury, slightly saline red with ripe red fruit, hints of Mediterranean scrub and fine, balanced tannins, an honest expression of Sardinia from a producer that helped put the island on the fine-wine map.
