Tasting notes

Pale garnet with an orange rim. The nose is textbook Nebbiolo: dried rose, sour cherry, tar, liquorice and sweet tobacco, with a touch of leather. The palate is medium-bodied and tightly knit, its fine chalky tannin and high acidity framing red fruit rather than covering it. The finish is long and dry, leaving rose petal, cherry pit and mint.

About this wine

The Cavallotto family has owned Bricco Boschis in Castiglione Falletto since 1928 and farms the whole hill as a single estate, selling fruit to no one. The vineyard has been worked without herbicides or insecticides for decades, long before that became fashionable.

Fermentation is long and spontaneous in concrete, followed by several years in large Slavonian oak botti. Nothing in the cellar is designed to soften or modernise the wine, and Cavallotto releases its Barolo only when it considers it ready to drink.
