Tasting notes

Deep ruby with purple glints. Sour cherry, raspberry and violet lead the nose, with a herbal, peppery edge. The palate is crisp and firmly tannic, its red fruit cut by bright acidity and a faintly bitter almond note. The finish is dry and savoury.

About this wine

Cavallotto has farmed the Bricco Boschis hill in Castiglione Falletto since 1928, and the family has bottled its own wine since 1948. The estate works without herbicides or synthetic treatments and is certified organic.

Freisa is a native Piedmontese grape closely related to Nebbiolo, long grown alongside it in the Langhe but rarely bottled on its own. Cavallotto vinifies it in stainless steel to keep its bright red fruit and lively structure, then ages it briefly before release.

The result is a characterful, tannic red that shows a side of Piedmont beyond Barolo.
