Tasting notes

Garnet with a brick-tinged rim. The nose shows dried blackcurrant and plum with cedar, leather and forest-floor notes from bottle age. The palate is medium-bodied and harmonious, with softened tannins and a savoury, gently spicy finish.

Château Chantelys is a family estate in Prignac-en-Médoc, in the northern part of Bordeaux's Left Bank. Its wine holds Cru Bourgeois status and follows the classic style of the Médoc appellation.

The blend unites Cabernet Sauvignon, which gives structure and freshness, with Merlot for soft, ripe fruit and a touch of Petit Verdot for colour and spice. Moderate alcohol keeps the wine elegant rather than heavy.

The 2015 vintage, an excellent year in Bordeaux, has now spent a decade in bottle and shows a mature character, with developed, gentle tertiary tones layered over the fruit. A rewarding chance to taste a Médoc at its peak.
