Tasting notes

Deep purple-black. The nose shows blackcurrant, blackberry and violet with cedar, graphite and fine oak. The palate is full and tightly structured, with dense, ripe tannins, great freshness and a long, pure finish of dark fruit and minerals.

About this wine

Château Léoville Las Cases is a Second Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Julien and covers about three fifths of the historic Léoville estate, one of the oldest in the Médoc. Its heart is the walled Clos Léoville Las Cases on gravel soils, and since the late 19th century the estate has been run by the Delon family.

The 2010 blends 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc. The nearby Gironde favours early ripening, and a sunny summer followed by an outstanding August and September gave exceptional grapes.

It is widely seen as one of the great modern vintages of this "super second".
