Tasting notes

Deep ruby. The nose offers blackcurrant, black cherry and violet with cedar and fine oak spice. The palate is powerful, dense and fleshy, with the refined character of Cabernet Sauvignon, soft tannins and a long, elegant finish.

About this wine

Château Margaux, one of the four first growths of the 1855 classification, has belonged to the Mentzelopoulos family since 1977. The 2012 season brought a rainy spring and a very dry summer, and the estate applied just one chemical treatment instead of the usual seven or eight.

Uneven ripening called for strict selection, and just under 34% of the harvest went into the grand vin: 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, aged on average 21 months in new French oak.

The result is a powerful wine that still shows the refined character of Margaux Cabernet.
