Tasting notes

Dark, deep colour. The nose shows black cherry, candied quince and liquorice with smoky notes and well-integrated oak. The palate has a rich attack, precise tannins, hints of mocha and a long, fresh finish.

About this wine

Château Mouton Rothschild is one of the first growths of Pauillac, famous for labels painted each year by a different artist. The 2004 label is a watercolour by the Prince of Wales, created for the centenary of the Entente Cordiale between France and the United Kingdom.

The 2004 blends 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot.

The year was the driest since 1962, and a sunny September allowed the grapes to ripen fully, giving a classic, refined Mouton that now shows the complexity of two decades in bottle.
